Animal Rescue Centre is Here!

We’re excited to share that Animal Rescue Centre is now live in the UK!

This 8-week home education project invites UKS2 learners to step into the role of animal carers, scientists, and rescue leaders. Along the way, they’ll design their own centre, care for animals (imaginary or plush friends), and explore how humans can make a difference for wildlife.

Why Animal Rescue?

Many children, especially neurodivergent learners, connect deeply with animals. Having the chance to choose their own focus animal makes the project personal, empowering, and a wonderful way to harness special interests for meaningful learning.

What’s Inside the Project

  • 8 weeks of guided activities – each with a focus question and open-ended challenges.

  • Parent Guide – with instructions, ideas for adjustments, and extension suggestions.

  • Student Guide – creative, neuro-affirming activities written directly to your child.

  • Resource List – carefully chosen books, videos, and websites to enrich learning.

  • Learning Log – optional templates to help track your progress.

A Peek at the Journey

Each week builds on the last. Learners begin by exploring what rescue centres do and choosing an animal they want to focus on - whether it’s a favourite species, a beloved pet, or a long-time special interest. They go on to design habitats and routines, imagine a team of helpers, and expand their centre to include community connections. The project ends with learners taking action for animals and celebrating their unique rescue centre.

Skills Learners Will Build

  • Science: animal classification, habitats, and ecosystems.

  • English: persuasive writing, storytelling, and research.

  • Maths: measurement, capacity, and resource planning.

  • PSHE: empathy, teamwork, and advocacy.

A Neuro-Affirming Home Education Project

Our projects are designed with neurodivergent learners in mind:

  • Flexible activities (do more when energy is high, pare back when it’s low).

  • Open-ended outcomes (no “one right answer”).

  • Scaffolds to support documentation if you want to keep notes of your child’s journey.
