ReInventors
Turn everyday materials into clever ideas — one small discovery at a time.
In this 8-week project, your learner becomes a ReInvention Agent: exploring objects, testing materials, experimenting with movement, and designing a final invention built entirely from their own ideas. Whether they love tinkering, crafting, making tiny things, imagining gadgets, or reusing interesting scraps from around the house, ReInventors meets them right where they are.
It’s hands-on, playful engineering — where curiosity leads the way.
About this Project
ReInventors invites learners to look at everyday materials in a brand-new way. Across the 8 weeks, they’ll explore:
how objects are made
how parts bend, twist, hinge, slide, or connect
how materials behave
how tiny builds come together
how prototypes help us test ideas
and finally, how to turn all that learning into a unique invention of their own
Each week builds gently on the last, guiding your learner from simple noticing and exploration to designing, building, testing, and refining their invention.
Throughout the project, learners create a Project Case File — a growing collection of photos, sketches, notes, experiments, prototypes, and their final build. It becomes the record of their ideas, discoveries, and making process, captured in whichever format works best for them.
ReInventors is perfect for kids who love fiddling with small objects, exploring how things work, creating characters or tiny props, building worlds, or simply experimenting with materials in their own way. It works just as well for learners who don’t think of themselves as “engineers” — because the project starts small, stays gentle, and builds confidence step by step.
We’ve designed this project to be curriculum-aligned, neuro-affirming, and flexible, so your learner can follow their curiosity at a pace that feels right for them.
What Your Learner Will Do
Over the 8 weeks, your learner will:
Build a collection of interesting materials and record their discoveries.
Choose one object to explore and investigate its hidden clues.
Study simple mechanisms and discover how things hinge, bend, move, and connect.
Experiment with tiny builds in the Maker Skills Lab — testing joins, shapes, and movement.
Build a small prototype and test what works (and what doesn’t).
Choose a final Invention Direction based on their experiments and ideas.
Begin their final invention by building a core structure with one key feature.
Strengthen, refine, decorate, and complete their invention in Week 8.
Share their creation in a final Showcase — photos, drawings, video tour, or any format they choose.
Build their Project Case File, capturing their thinking, experiments, and finished invention.
By the end of the project, your learner will have a unique invention of their own — plus a Case File full of tiny discoveries, experiments, reflections, and creative ideas.
