Welcome to The Rainbow Project!

In The Rainbow Project, learners explore the stories, people, and movements that have shaped LGBTQIA+ rights in the UK and around the world. They’ll learn how brave individuals and communities have used their voices to stand up for fairness, visibility, and belonging — and how art, storytelling, and activism continue to drive change today.

About this Project

Celebrate diversity. Learn from history. Create change.

Across eight weeks, your learner will create their own Rainbow Project Exhibition — a collection of artworks, written pieces, or digital media that express their reflections on identity, equality, and pride. Each week explores a new idea — from understanding what fairness means, to discovering LGBTQIA+ trailblazers, to celebrating how representation in media and art helps everyone feel seen.

By the end, your learner will have not just an exhibition, but a deeper understanding of how creativity and courage can make the world more inclusive.

What Your Learner Will Do

Over eight weeks, your learner will:

  • Discover key moments in LGBTQIA+ history and learn about people who fought for change.

  • Reflect on how identity and expression are part of who we are.

  • Examine how language, art, and storytelling can build empathy and challenge stereotypes.

  • Create weekly “exhibit pieces” — artworks, posters, collages, or digital media inspired by what they’ve learned.

  • Curate their work into a final Rainbow Project Exhibition that celebrates diversity and inclusion.

Ideal For

Learners who are curious about fairness and equality, love to create, or want to explore identity and community through a positive, creative lens. Designed to be neuro-affirming, flexible, and respectful of each family’s values and readiness for discussion.
