Caring Conservationists Who Are Changing Our Planet
by Kate Peridot, illustrated by Sarah Long
This lively and colourful book introduces children to conservationists and activists from around the world. Each profile spotlights an adult who has dedicated their life to protecting animals, habitats, and communities. The stories show the many different ways people can care for the Earth - whether through science, community action, or creative solutions.
A strength of this book is its diversity. The conservationists featured come from many cultures and backgrounds, offering kids a broad and inclusive picture of what environmental leadership looks like. While there aren’t any Australian profiles, the global focus helps learners see themselves as part of an interconnected world, where everyone has a role to play in caring for the planet.
Every profile also includes a practical activity for kids to try at home, inspired by the conservationist’s work. This turns inspiration into action, helping learners see how they, too, can contribute in their own way. For neurodivergent kids, that clear link between story and hands-on doing can be grounding and motivating. A great fit for the Planet Protectors project, this book also supports Animal Rescue Centre, as many of the conservationists’ efforts are directly tied to protecting and caring for animals.
