Sensory Architects | 8-Week Stage 3 Homeschool Project
Design a space that feels just right.
In this 8-week project, your learner will step into the role of a sensory designer — exploring how spaces affect the way we think, feel, and move. Along the way, they’ll discover what helps them feel calm, focused, and inspired, then use those insights to design a sensory-friendly space that truly fits them.
Each week layers new skills and self-awareness: from noticing how light, sound, and texture shape comfort, to planning layouts, experimenting with materials, and building a model or digital prototype of their dream space.
By the end of the project, your learner will have a completed sensory-space design and a Designer’s Journal filled with ideas, reflections, and creative discoveries — a meaningful record of learning about both design and themselves.
We’ve designed this project to be curriculum-aligned, neuro-affirming, and flexible, so you can stress less and enjoy the process together.

What Your Learner Will Do
Over the 8 weeks, your learner will:
Notice how different spaces make them feel — calm, distracted, or energised.
Create a Designer’s Journal and Sensory Diary to record their discoveries.
Explore how design choices like light, colour, sound, and texture shape comfort.
Plan and sketch their own sensory-friendly space with zones for calm, movement, or creativity.
Experiment with models or digital tools like Minecraft or Tinkercad.
Add details like lighting, colour palettes, and materials to bring their design to life.
Refine their design for comfort, accessibility, and inclusion.
Share their finished space through a presentation, poster, or video tour.
Whether your child loves art, science, or hands-on making, Sensory Architects invites them to design from the inside out — learning what supports their comfort and creativity, and turning that knowledge into something beautiful.
