Project Spotlight: Game Makers
What if your child could invent their very own game from scratch?
Game Makers is an 8-week project that takes kids from idea to finished creation- whether that’s a board game, card game, or even a digital level. It’s about sparking imagination, learning by doing, and discovering the creativity behind the games they already love.
What’s it all about?
Game Makers invites learners to step into the role of a designer. Instead of just playing games, they’ll get to explore what makes them fun, then use those insights to craft their own. With open-ended prompts and plenty of flexibility, kids can follow their interests and bring their ideas to life in whatever format excites them most.
What They’ll Do
Across the project, learners will:
Look closely at the games they enjoy and figure out what makes them fun
Dream up and choose their own game concept
Create rules, themes, characters, or worlds to bring their vision to life
Build a prototype using simple materials (or digital tools if they prefer)
Playtest with family and friends, then make improvements
Share their finished game in a way that feels fun and celebratory
It’s a mix of imagination, problem-solving, and hands-on making wrapped up in a project that feels more like play than schoolwork.
